Follow the heat through the system
Hydro mining uses a purpose-built liquid circuit to carry heat away from compatible mining hardware. Coolant passes through the miner’s cooling channels or cold plates, then transfers heat to an external cooling system before returning. The heat still has to leave the site. Hydro is different from immersion, where suitable equipment is submerged in a compatible dielectric fluid. An air-cooled miner cannot be treated as a hydro model simply by adding water or removing fans.
Match the complete installation
Start with the exact miner manual and the cooling system’s design requirements. Inlet temperature, flow, pressure, coolant chemistry, connector type, and electrical supply are model-specific. Ask a qualified designer to assess the miner, pumps, heat exchanger, outdoor equipment, pipework, controls, and site conditions together. Include access for servicing, drainage arrangements, and the hottest expected weather. A miner’s advertised power or efficiency does not describe the electricity consumed by the complete cooling installation.
Protect the coolant and control condensation
Use only the fluid and maintenance specification approved for the equipment and climate. Tap water, unapproved additives, and casually mixed coolants can introduce contamination, corrosion, or material incompatibility. Record required quality tests and replacement dates. Freezing can damage channels and fittings during operation, transport, or storage. Excessively cold surfaces can also collect condensation in humid air. Have the cooling professional manage the operating envelope; lower coolant temperature is not automatically better.
Monitor trends and respond to alarms
Keep a baseline of inlet and outlet temperatures, flow or pressure readings available from the system, pump status, miner temperatures, and accepted hashrate. Compare trends under similar loads and weather. A sudden temperature rise, falling flow, repeated protection shutdown, or visible leak needs prompt investigation. Follow the documented safe shutdown procedure and contact the operator or service team. Never bypass protective controls, restart repeatedly, open a pressurized loop, or approach wet electrical equipment to keep mining.
Budget for operation and specialist service
Hydro can move substantial heat with a different noise profile, but pumps and external coolers still make noise and require maintenance. Compare total installed cost, cooling electricity, water use where relevant, consumables, planned downtime, and repair access. Heat reuse requires a separate engineered demand and heat-transfer arrangement. Agree who handles coolant testing, leak response, seasonal protection, and transport preparation before purchase. Electrical installation, pressure-system work, and internal repairs belong to qualified professionals following the current manuals.
